- I have a chapter on Ronald Dworkin's "Law's Empire" in the book, Leading Works in Philosophy of Law edited by Thom Brooks, which is being published by Routledge on 30th October. Despite not agreeing with many of his views, I hope I have done some justice to the innovative and thought-provoking character of Dworkin's work in legal philosophy. As someone from the 'analytic' side of the divide who has always had a strong interest in critical approaches to understanding law, I was really delighted to be asked to be part of Alex, Josh, and Sahar's 'Just Jurisprudence' project which was given a wonderful kick start in a one day workshop on Bridging the Analytical-Critical Divide held at the University of Bristol Law School on 15th November 2024: 2024: 'Just' Jurisprudence Conference | University of Bristol Law School | University of Bristol
The day itself was wonderful: open, exploratory, congenial, lively, with a wide variety of work presented and discussed. There was a spirit of genuine exchange and willingness to learn across alleged disciplinary divides that I find all too rare in academia. I met new colleagues and friends that I hope always to stay in touch with. As a contributor to the edited collection stemming from the workshop, I had a terrific experience during the editing process, and am so grateful to Alex, Josh and Sahar for their incisive yet generous-and-constructive-in-spirit comments, which made my piece so much better than it otherwise would have been. I am really looking forward to revisiting all the contributors essays in their final form.
